Indian Ports Act, 2025
On 18th August 2025, the President of India gave her assent to the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, replacing the colonial-era Indian Ports Act of 1908.
Key Provisions of the Act
State Maritime Boards
- The Act accords statutory recognition to Maritime Boards set up by coastal states.
- These Boards will regulate and administer non-major ports within their jurisdiction.
Maritime State Development Council
- Granted statutory status under the Act.
- Chaired by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
- Will frame guidelines in consultation with Centre and States, and advice on formulation of a National Perspective Plan.
Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC)
- States must establish ....
