Export Potential and Global Competitiveness of Indian Processed Foods
- India's share in global merchandise exports is currently around 1.8%, making it the 18th largest exporter in the world.
- Despite not being an export-oriented economy, exports contribute to around 23% of Indian GDP. This is higher than that of large economies like the US (12%), Japan (19%) and China (21%).
- Food and agricultural products contribute to around 11% of India's total exports.
- The Union Cabinet approved the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Food Processing Industry on March 31, 2021.
