The State of the World’s Forests, 2024
On 22nd July, 2024, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) released its State of the World’s Forests report, offering a nuanced view of the global state of forests.
- The biennial report carries extensive data on global forest resources and on humans’ interaction with them, while outlining strategies for reducing deforestation.
Major Findings
Decline in Deforestation Rates
- The report reveals a significant reduction in global deforestation rates over recent decades.
- From 1990 to 2020, about 420 million hectares (ha) of forest were converted to other land uses.
