17th BRICS Summit 2025
On 6-7 July 2025, 17th BRICS Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro under Brazil’s chairmanship.
- This was the first such meeting that included all the newly inducted members (Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, Iran and Indonesia; Saudi Arabia has not joined so far).
Major Highlights and Decisions
- A joint declaration, titled “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance” was issued.
- Called for United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reforms and supported India and Brazil for permanent membership.
- Called for inclusive governance in Artificial Intelligence, highlighting the lack of Global South representation.
- Urged for peace in Gaza and condemned attacks in Iran ....
