Bitra Island

  • A government notification on July 11, 2025, outlined a proposal by the Revenue Department to take over the entire Bitra Island and transfer it to relevant central defence and strategic agencies
  • If implemented, Bitra will become the third defence establishment island in Lakshadweep after INS Dweeprakshak (Kavaratti) and INS Jatayu (Minicoy).
  • It is the smallest inhabited island in northern Lakshadweep.
  • Length: 0.57 km, Width: 0.28 km.
  • Location: Arabian Sea, near Agatti Island.
