Expansion of Sanchar Mitra Scheme
On 11th July 2025, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) expanded the Sanchar Mitra Scheme into a nationwide programme to build digital literacy and enhance cyber safety awareness among citizens through a volunteer-based outreach programme.
Objectives
- Promote digital literacy and cyber hygiene
- Bridge the awareness gap between citizens and telecom regulations/services
- Empower youth to become telecom ambassadors in their communities

Sanchar Mitras
- These are selected university student volunteers from streams such as telecom, electronics, computer science, and cybersecurity who act as digital ambassadors to spread awareness at the grassroots level.
