India’s First Digital Nomad Village
Recently, Yakten, a village in Sikkim’s Pakyong district, has been officially declared India’s first digital nomad village under the ‘Nomad Sikkim’ initiative.
- The initiative aims to support remote workers with reliable infrastructure in a serene mountain environment.
- It also brings economic opportunities for local families through homestay tourism equipped with high-speed internet.
- The project, named ‘Nomad Sikkim’, is a collaboration between the Pakyong district administration and the NGO Sarvahitey.
- Yakten has been upgraded with dual internet lines, village-wide Wi-Fi, and power backup systems to ensure uninterrupted productivity. These upgrades are critical for digital nomads who require consistent connectivity.
