On 7th July 2026, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs released The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2026.
Key Findings
Progress Achieved Since 2015
- Nearly 1 billion people gained access to safely managed drinking water,
- 1.2 billion to sanitation,
- electricity access reached 92% of the global population,
- internet penetration increased from 40% to 74%, and
- social protection now covers over half the world's population.
Persistent Gaps
- About 49% of SDG targets are progressing too slowly, while 15% have regressed below 2015 levels.
- Around 10% of the global population still lives in extreme poverty, 2.3 billion people face food insecurity, ....
