India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce Launched
On 18th February 2026, India and the United Kingdom formally launched the India-UK Offshore Wind Taskforce to accelerate offshore wind development.
India’s Current Renewable Energy Status
- India’s non-fossil electricity capacity has crossed 272 GW.
- This includes over 141 GW solar power and 55 GW wind energy capacity.
- India achieved 50% non-fossil installed power capacity 5 years ahead of its NDC timeline.
Why Offshore Wind Matters Now
- Offshore wind is critical for the next phase of India’s energy transition.
- It supports grid stability, energy security, and long-term clean power reliability.
- Promising offshore zones have been identified off Gujarat and Tamil Nadu coasts.
