Quantum Technique to Generate True Random Numbers
Recently, researchers from Bengaluru’s Raman Research Institute (RRI), achieved a major breakthrough by using a quantum computer to generate and certify truly random numbers — a step that could revolutionize digital security and encryption systems.
What makes it special?
- Current security systems use pseudorandom numbers generated by algorithms, which appear random but can, in theory, be decoded.
- The new method uses quantum properties — where particle behaviour is inherently unpredictable — to create true randomness that cannot be hacked or predicted.
- The team demonstrated this using a commercial quantum computer, proving it works even outside controlled lab conditions.
