ANCHOR: World's Most Detailed 3D Atlas of the Human Brainstem

On 5-7th June 2026, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras showcased ANCHOR (Atlas of Neurochemical Characterization of the Human Brainstem with 3D Reconstruction), the world's most detailed 3D atlas of the human brainstem.

Key Features

  • Provides a highly detailed 3D map of brainstem structures at the cellular level.
  • Uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify tissues, cells and neurochemical structures while researchers validate the outputs.
  • The project generates nearly 4 TB of imaging data every hour, requiring advanced cloud computing and high-performance data storage.
  • The atlas is designed to expand beyond the brainstem to eventually map the entire human brain across different ....
