What do you understand by e-Governance? What are the initiatives taken by India recently to strengthen e-governance in Panchayati Raj Institutions?
Answer: E-governance is the incorporation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure in public service delivery system. It aims to ease transaction between Government to Government, Government to Business and Government to Citizen thereby ensuring efficiency, transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
In 2006, Government launched e-Governance plan to computerize 27 government sectors for transparent and faster delivery of government service.
With respect to Panchayati Raj Institutions, recently government started e-Gramswaraj, a simplified work based accounting application, which amalgamate all application under e-Panchayat mission mode project. The mission mode project was replaced by e-Gramswaraj.
