India Deploys New Igla-S Missiles
In May 2025, India reinforced its air defence by inducting new batches of Russian-origin Igla-S missiles to counter low-flying threats along sensitive border areas.
- The Indian Army has received Igla-S under Rs.260 crore emergency procurement deal to strengthen its frontline formations.
- The Igla-S is a shoulder-fired, man-portable surface-to-air missile that uses infrared homing to track and destroy low-altitude targets like aircraft, helicopters, and drones.
