New Worm-Eating Snake Species discovered in Mizoram and Myanmar

In May 2026, scientists discovered a new species of underground worm-eating snake named Trachischium lalremsangai from the forests of Mizoram and neighbouring Myanmar.

  • The species was described in the international journal Herpetozoa by researchers from India and Germany.
  • The snake was named after Hmar Tlawmte Lalremsanga in recognition of his contributions to herpetology and biodiversity research in India.
