Conservation Survey for Peacock Tarantula
Recently, the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department, along with the Eastern Ghats Wildlife Society, launched a conservation status survey for the endangered Peacock Tarantula in the Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR).
About Peacock Tarantula
- Scientific Name: Poecilotheria metallica
- Endemic to: Eastern Ghats of India
- Known for: Distinct metallic blue colouration
- Listed as: Critically Endangered
Why is the Species Threatened?
- Habitat loss and forest degradation,
- Illegal exotic pet trade, and
- Restricted geographical distribution.

- Predator that helps in regulating insect populations.
