Ministry of Mines Notifies Amendments to the Mineral Concession Rules
On 30th March 2026, the Ministry of Mines notified the Minerals (Other than Atomic and Hydro Carbons Energy Minerals) Concession (Second Amendment) Rules, 2026.
Background and Objective
- The amendment follows changes made to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 through the 2025 Amendment Act, effective from 1 September 2025.
- The primary objective is to enhance exploration and production of critical minerals essential for industrial growth and to strengthen self-reliance.
Key Amendments
Provision for Contiguous Area Inclusion
- Introduces a simple and time-bound process for extending lease or licence areas.
