India Ranks 8th Globally in WHO Pharmacovigilance Contributions

On 2nd January 2026, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare said that India has climbed to 8th position globally from 123rd in contributions to the World Health Organization (WHO) pharmacovigilance database.

  • He made the announcement at the release of the 10th edition of India’s official book of drug standards, Indian Pharmacopoeia 2026, in New Delhi.
  • The Minister highlighted major gains under the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) implemented by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC).
  • Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) 2026 adds 121 new monographs, raising the total to 3,340, covering key medicines used in national health programmes.
