150th Birth Anniversary of Birsa Munda
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs organized the “Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada” from 1–15 November 2025 to mark the culmination of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh. The initiative commemorates the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda.
Leadership and the Ulgulan Movement
- Birsa Munda spearheaded the ‘Ulgulan’ (Great Tumult) in the late nineteenth century in Jharkhand.
- The movement primarily aimed to restore tribal land rights against exploitative British and zamindari agrarian systems.
- He founded the ‘Birsait’ faith, advocating for strict monotheism and the rejection of social superstitions.
- The rebellion sought to establish ‘Munda Raj’, envisioning a society free from colonial and outsider interference.
