Animal Stem Cell Biobank at NIAB
In August 2025, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh inaugurated India’s first Animal Stem Cell Biobank at National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) in Hyderabad.
- NIAB is a premier institute under the Department of Biotechnology’s Biotechnology Research Innovation Council.
- The biobank will store and preserve high-quality stem cells from multiple animal species for research, veterinary, and industrial use.
- It is developed in collaboration with HiMedia Laboratories.
- The facility will supply quality-controlled stem cells and cost-effective cell culture media to clinics, hospitals, and research institutions.
