Organ Transplantation in India
In February 2026, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has achieved a significant milestone in the field of organ donation and transplantation, with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) recording unprecedented progress in organ donation, allocation, and transplantation across the country.
Key Achievements
- The number of transplants in the country has increased from less than 5 thousand in the year 2013 to nearly 20 thousand in the year 2025, a remarkable fourfold increase.
- Around 18% of transplants are currently being performed with the organs donated from deceased donors.
