Renewable Energy Integration

In March 2026, the Centre outlined progress and future roadmap for large-scale renewable energy (RE) integration, including transmission expansion, storage solutions, and rooftop solar initiatives.

Key Highlights

  • The Government is strengthening the grid through Green Energy Corridors (GEC) and expansion of the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) to integrate over 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and 600 GW by 2032.
  • Under the National Electricity Plan (Transmission), the network (220 kV and above) is projected to expand to 6.48 lakh circuit km and 2,345 GVA transformation capacity by 2031–32.
