Two New Ramsar Sites in India

  • On 31st January 2026, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced the inclusion of Patna Bird Sanctuary (Uttar Pradesh) and Chhari-Dhand (Gujarat) in the global Ramsar list.
    • Patna Bird Sanctuary (UP): It is a typical rain-fed oxbow lake and the smallest Ramsar site in Uttar Pradesh (1.09 sq km). It supports over 60,000 birds during winter, dominated by the Northern Pintail and Rosy Pelican.
    • Chhari-Dhand (Gujarat): A seasonal saline wetland located between the Banni grasslands and the Kutch salt flats. It is Gujarat's only Conservation Reserve, serving as a critical stopover for nearly 30,000 Common Cranes and both Greater and ....
