VELC (Aditya-L1 Coronagraph)

  • In November 2025, using data from the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) onboard Aditya-L1, scientists from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), in collaboration with NASA, have successfully estimated key parameters of a Coronal Mass Ejections (CME).
    • It is the primary payload onboard Aditya-L1, India’s first dedicated solar mission placed around Sun–Earth L1. It is an internally occulted coronagraph, designed to block the bright solar disc and observe the faint solar corona close to the Sun.
