Vikram 3201: India Gets Its First Indigenous Microprocessor

On 2nd September 2025, Union IT Minister presented the country’s first fully indigenous microprocessor, Vikram 3201, to Prime Minister at Semicon India 2025. Developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Semiconductor Laboratory, the chip marks a major step in India’s self-reliance journey.

Key Features of the Innovation

  • Vikram 3201 is India’s first “Made-in-India” microprocessor, designed and built domestically.
  • Unveiled as part of the broader India Semiconductor Mission (2021), which has led to the construction of five fabrication units nationwide.
  • Symbolises India’s growing credibility in the global semiconductor ecosystem within just 3.5 years of mission launch.
