Designated National Authority
On 22nd August 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued a notification, constituting a Designated National Authority (DNA) for the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
What is Designated National Authority?
- The DNA is a mandatory requirement to enable a carbon emissions trading regime under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement (2015).
- The main task of the DNA is to assess potential Article 6.4 projects to determine whether they will assist the host country in achieving its sustainable development goals, and to provide a letter of approval to project participants ....
