Standing Committee Report on Water Resources

On 11th August 2025, Standing Committee on Water Resources (2024-25) submitted its report in the Parliament.

  • The report highlighted that despite significant technological advancements and substantial investments, India continues to face severe socio-economic losses due to floods and water scarcity.

Key Observations & Recommendations

Interlinking of Rivers

  • 30 link projects identified, 16 under the Peninsular component and 14 under the Himalayan component.
  • Pre-Feasibility Reports (PFRs) completed for all 30 projects, Feasibility Reports (FRs) for 24, and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for 11.
  • Recommendations
    • Interlinking offers a long-term solution to water scarcity, drought mitigation, and flood control.
