Nuakhai Juhar
On 28 August 2025, Nuakhai festival was celebrated across Odisha.
- Nuakhai, also called 'Nuakhai Parab', is an agricultural festival observed to welcome the new rice of the season.
- The word 'nua' means 'new' and 'khai' means 'food', so the name means the farmers are in possession of the newly harvested rice.
- Farmers offer the first produce from their lands to Goddess Samaleswari, the famous ‘Mother Goddess’ of Sambalpur district of Odisha.
- It is observed on panchami tithi (the fifth day) of the lunar fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada or Bhadraba (August-September), the day after Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
