Rajasthan Approves Draft UCC and Tree Protection Bills
- On 13th August 2026, the Rajasthan Cabinet approved drafts of the Rajasthan UCC Bill 2026 and Trees (Protection) Bill 2026.
- The proposed UCC seeks a common legal framework for marriage, divorce, inheritance, maintenance and live-in relationships.
- It proposes mandatory marriage registration within 60 days and prohibits polygamy.
- The UCC provides equal inheritance rights to sons and daughters but excludes constitutionally protected Scheduled Tribe customary rights.
- The Trees (Protection) Bill proposes special protection for 29 tree species, including the state tree Khejri.
- Unauthorised felling of protected trees on non-forest land could attract up to one year imprisonment, Rs.1 lakh fine, or ....
