  • On 15th August 2026, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the Vidyarthi Sahayahasta Scheme to improve rural students’ access to professional education.
  • The scheme provides 7.5% reservation within the existing 15% rural reservation for professional courses.
  • It covers students who studied Classes 1 to 10 in rural government schools.
