'Vetri Vaanmagal' Scheme for Women Farmers

  • On 6th August 2026, the Tamil Nadu Government announced the 'Vetri Vaanmagal' scheme to train women farmers in drone operations, aiming to promote precision agriculture, address labour shortages and create new employment opportunities in the farm sector.
  • Under the scheme, 500 eligible persons, including 100 women, will receive drone operator training and a drone pilot licence through the Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).
  • The state government has allocatedRs.1.50 crore for providing the training programme.
  • Fifty trained women will receive agricultural drones with a 50% subsidy, supported by an allocation ofRs.2.50 crore from the state government.
