Draft Rules to Operationalize Digital Bharat Nidhi
On 4th July, 2024, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) released draft rules to operationalize the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), aiming to improve telecom services in rural areas by replacing the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF).

- Introduction of DBN: DBN will replace USOF, a fund supported by a 5% levy on telecom operators' Adjusted Gross Revenue, intended for expanding telecom networks in underserved areas.
- Operational Framework: Contributions from telecom companies will go to the Consolidated Fund of India before being allocated to DBN. An appointed administrator will oversee the selection of DBN implementers and funding distribution.
