India Notifies CETA Rules of Origin
On 9th July 2026, the Union Finance Ministry notified the Rules of Origin under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), effective from 15th July 2026.
- The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued the notification.
- Authorised agencies in both countries will issue Certificates of Origin.
What are Rules of Origin?
- Definition: Rules determining the national source of a product under a trade agreement.
- Purpose: Ensure only eligible goods receive preferential tariff benefits.
- Prevents Misuse: Stops third-country goods from claiming FTA concessions.
- Verification: Based on production, value addition or substantial transformation criteria.
