Bryocrumia malabarica – New Species of Bryophyte
Bryocrumia malabarica is a new species of Bryophyte of the genus Bryocrumia that was recently discovered in Kerala.
- The term Bryophyte refers to any nonvascular seedless plant—namely, any of the mosses, hornworts and liverworts. Most bryophytes lack complex tissue organization, but show considerable diversity in form and ecology. They are widely distributed throughout the world and are relatively small compared with most seed-bearing plants.
- Bryocrumia malabarica has been named so because it was discovered in the Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary along the Western Ghats.
