Beidou: Chinese Version of GPS
- China has recently completed its BeiDou Navigation Satellite System constellation, that can potentially rival the US Global Positioning System (GPS) as the final satellite needed to complete China’s own navigation and positioning satellite system has passed final on-orbit tests.
Highlights
- It has a constellation of 35 satellites- 27 satellites in medium Earth orbits, five in geostationary orbits and three in inclined GEO orbits. The orbits are designed to form two figure eight loops to provide optimized coverage to China and neighbouring countries in the Asia-Pacific.
