COP28's Call: 'Transition Away' from Fossil Fuels
- COP28 in Dubai UAE adopted the 'Dubai Consensus' to 'transition away' from fossil fuels for the first time.
- In this historic agreement, a promise has been made to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and move away from fossil fuels. The agreement calls for tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.
- However, some scientists say that given the urgent need for action to tackle the climate crisis, COP28's failure to call for a phase-out of fossil fuels is 'disastrous' and 'dangerous'.
