- The word Theyyam means 'God'. It refers to the embodiment of faith of the people in northern Kerala.
- Theyyam is a beautiful ritual art that combines the art of face painting with precision with mesmerizing performances through musical instruments along with dynamism (Tandava Nritya).
- Theyyam art is currently practiced in Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts of Kerala.
- This art is also known as 'Bhuta Kala' in the neighbouring state of Karnataka.
- In the year 2018-19, the establishment of 'Theyyam Kala Academy' was announced by the Government of Kerala.
