Armenia Unveils COP17 Logo Featuring Endemic Blue Butterfly
On 9th December 2025, Armenia unveiled the official logo for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, scheduled for October 2026.
What is it?
- The logo features Polyommatus eriwanensis, a blue butterfly found only in and around Yerevan, accompanied by the slogan “Taking action for nature.”
- Polyommatus eriwanensis, known as the Erivan Anomalous Blue, is a rare blue butterfly species native exclusively to Armenia.
- It derives its name from Yerevan (formerly Erivan) and is restricted to southern Transcaucasia.
Habitat
- Occupies calcareous grasslands across Armenia.
- Occurs at altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 2,200 metres above sea level.
