The Securities Markets Code Bill, 2025
On 18th December 2025, the Securities Markets Code Bill, 2025 was introduced in the Lok Sabha, marking a major step towards consolidation and modernisation of India’s securities market laws. It has been referred to Standing Committee for evaluation.
It seeks to repeal and subsume the following:
- The Securities Contracts (Regulations) Act, 1956,
- The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Act, 1992, and
- The Depositories Act, 1996.(It regulates dealings of securities and operation of stock exchanges).
