Mizoram: First State in India to Attain Full Functional Literacy
On 20th May 2025, Chief Minister of Mizoram officially declared Mizoram a fully literate state—marking a historic milestone in India’s educational landscape.
- Earlier, Ladakh became the first administrative unit to declare full functional literacy under ULLAS.
- The Periodic Foundational Literacy Survey (PFLS) for 2023–24 confirmed Mizoram’s literacy rate at 98.20%.
ULLAS- Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram or New India Literacy Programme (NILP)
- It is a centrally sponsored scheme being implemented from 2022 to 2027.
Objectives
- Promote inclusive adult education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
- Target non-literate individuals aged 15 and above across India.
