Kerala’s Sacred Groves Restoration Programme

Recently, the Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) launched a pilot restoration programme for sacred groves in collaboration with local Biodiversity Management Committees.

  • Five sacred groves were selected from Ernakulam, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts for the project’s initial phase.
  • Key activities include biodiversity assessment, invasive species removal, bio-fencing, plastic waste removal, and pond rejuvenation.
