2026 Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit
On 2nd April 2026, global health leaders at the 2026 Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit, co-hosted by the World Health Organization in Rio de Janeiro, renewed their commitment to accelerate life-saving public health actions in rapidly growing urban areas.
What Happened?
- Summit brought together representatives from 55 cities worldwide to address rising urban health challenges.
- Focused on tackling noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries, responsible for over 80% of global deaths.
- Emphasised adoption of evidence-based, scalable urban health solutions.
Key Focus Areas
- Major diseases targeted include:
- Heart disease,
- Cancer,
- Chronic respiratory diseases, and
- Diabetes.
- Also addressed: Road traffic injuries and urban safety risks.
