1. Reduction of Multidimensional Poverty in India: The 2019 global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) from the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) was released on 12 July 2019. As per the report, India has lifted 271 million people out of poverty between 2006 and 2016.
- India has reduced its poverty rate drastically from 55% to 28% in these 10 years.
- It is the fastest reductions in the multidimensional poverty index values during the period with strong improvements in areas such as assets, cooking fuel, sanitation and nutrition.
