Telecommunication Act, 2023
On 24th December, 2023 the Telecommunication Act, 2023 received assent of the President.
- The Telecommunications Act, 2023, replaces outdated acts like the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, and The Telegraph Wire (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1950, with modern legislation.
- It covers licensing, telecom infrastructure, spectrum management, spam protection, and more.
- It expands the definition of "Telecommunication Services" to include "Over-The-Top (OTT) communication services," potentially requiring OTT platforms to seek licenses.
