XPoSat: India's First Dedicated Polarimetry Mission

On January 1, 2024, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a milestone with the successful launch of the PSLV-C58/X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) Mission.

  • This mission represents India's first scientific satellite specifically designed to investigate X-ray emissions from celestial bodies.
  • Mission Scope: XPoSat endeavours to measure X-ray polarization within the 8-30 keV energy band, targeting around 50 cosmic sources.
  • Comprehensive Studies: The mission aims for prolonged spectral and temporal analysis of cosmic X-ray sources, leveraging X-ray polarization to unravel the radiation mechanisms and geometries of celestial objects.
