9th AIIB Board of Governors Meeting
Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman represented India at the 9th Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Board of Governors meeting.
- Meet was held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 25-26, 2024.
- Theme: "Building Resilient Infrastructure for All," emphasizing climate-resilient infrastructure.
- AIIB introduced Climate Policy-Based Financing (CPBF) in June 2024 to mobilize private capital.
- AIIB President Jin Liqun announced that 60% of AIIB’s 2024 lending will focus on climate projects.
- During the meet, the Republic of Nauru joined AIIB, raising the total membership to 110 countries.
- India is second-Largest Shareholder in AIIB and holds a 7.58% share, second only to China’s 26.5%.
