- Kadambini Ganguly (1861-1923) was the first Indian woman doctor in South Asia and India to practice Western medicine.
- Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi (1865-1887) was the first Indian woman to receive a degree in Western medicine.
- Janaki Ammal (1897-1984) was India’s first female botanist and a founding fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru. She was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 1977 for her remarkable contributions to botany.
- Irawati Karve (1905-1970) is considered India’s first female psychologist and sociologist.
- Asima Chatterjee (1917-2006) was the first woman to receive a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Calcutta. ....
