Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS)

In March 2024, the government has launched several initiatives to expand and modernize PACS, enhancing their role in agriculture and rural finance.

Key Initiatives

  • 500 new PACS to build godowns & agricultural infrastructure.
  • Computerization of 18,000 PACS under the Centrally Sponsored PACS Computerization Project, aiming to digitize 63,000 functional PACS for efficiency, transparency, and reduced transaction costs.
  • Launch of the National Cooperative Database (NCD) to provide comprehensive cooperative data across states and UTs.

Role of PACS

  • Grassroot institutions under the State Cooperative Societies Act.
  • Disburse short-term credit, distribute agricultural inputs, and promote financial inclusion.
  • Account for 41% of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans, benefiting ....
