State of the Rhino 2024 Report

The International Rhino Foundation (IRF) released the State of the Rhino 2024 Report on World Rhino Day (September 22, 2024).

1. White Rhino

IUCN Population Estimate: 17,464
Status: Near Threatened
Northern White Rhino: Functionally extinct (only two left in the world – both females)

2. Black Rhino

IUCN Population Estimate: 6,421
Status: Critically Endangered
Found in: 12 countries in Africa

3. Greater One-Horned Rhino

IUCN Population Estimate: 4,014
India’s Rhino Population: 3,262
Status: Vulnerable
Primary Range: India and Nepal, occasional presence in Bhutan
