UNEP Adaptation Gap Report 2024

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released the Adaptation Gap Report 2024, titled “Come Hell and High Water,” in November 2024.

  • The report assesses global progress in climate adaptation planning, finance, and implementation.

  • Global Temperatures: Rapidly approaching 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
  • Escalating Climate Risks: Rising temperatures are increasing adaptation costs and exacerbating residual climate risks.
  • Urgent Action Required: Strengthening adaptation components in the next Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) due by February 2025 is critical.
  • Global Coverage:
    • 171 countries (87%) have at least one National Adaptation Plan (NAP).
