UNESCO’s Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Regional Register
In May 2024, three Indian literary works were included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Regional Register.
- This was announced during the 10th Meeting of the Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
- Ramcharitmanas
- Written by Goswami Tulsidas in the 16th century.
- An epic poem narrating the life of Lord Rama.
- Written in Awadhi, a dialect of Hindi.
- Panchatantra Fables
- Composed by Vishnu Sharma around 200 BC.
- A collection of moral stories (Niti) presented in fable form.
- Originally written in Sanskrit.
- Sahrdayaloka-Locana
- A Sanskrit commentary on Dhvanyaloka, a foundational text in Indian literary theory.
- Authored by Acharya Anandavardhana.
